I purchased a stack of Compaq Presario CQ56-115DX laptops the other day because they were super cheap and fit their purpose almost perfectly. Folders with all LINDA settings to the FSUIPC6 folder created above.Everytime I installed windows (either on my PC or my Laptop) everything works fine for the first few Months. But after a few months Windows kept locking my FN Key.So when I wanted to use F2 to rename a File (for example) I had to hold the FN Key to use that function. EVEN ON MY DESKTOP! The FN Functions on the other hand (screen brightness, volume, etc.) worked without pressing the FN Key.This always happened a few months after reinstalling WIndows, and I never got it back to normal again. HP calls them Action Keys, and it's a BIOS setting. I did some searching trying to find a way to lock the function keys and luckily I was able to find one. By default the special actions on each key was used instead. I found that out of the box, you had to hold down Fn in order to do that.
Turn Fn or function key lock on or off on newer HP. Press F10 to save the settings and exit Enabled will change the brightness or change volume, disabled will allow using F1-F126. Press F5 or F6 to toggle between Enabled/Disabled.
